Being The Witness
Do you ever watch your life as if you were watching it in a movie? Take yourself out of your head and become a witness?
The crazy thing is, when you do that, everything just seems so beautiful that it's hard to believe that you're watching yourself. The sad truth is that you can't appreciate the beauty in the everyday when you're too busy running with your thoughts. But, step away and washing the dishes can become a masterpiece. It's really that easy. Seriously, try it. Drive to work, wash your hands, eat dinner, talk to your co-workers all from the perspective of the viewer and behold the glory.
Sometimes, I do this and I just fall in love with myself. Maybe that sounds crazy and egoic, but it's not like that. It's as if you're finally seeing yourself for real and not through all of the lenses of the mind, which is often full of judgement.
As an example, think about your favorite movie and how you feel about the characters. If it's a good movie, you probably feel something for them. You probably care about them and maybe you even feel protective over them. You might even fall in love with them a bit every time you watch the movie. It's something like that when you become the witness in your own life too.
Our minds are so heavy with judgement, making us doubt ourselves at every turn. Step back, become the witness and that just all falls away. When you're identifying with the witness, there's no "you" to judge yourself. There's nothing at all to think, we're just purely observing. And it's absolutely beautiful.
