Investing in Yourself
I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't made a blog post in over a week, but life has been a little unpredictable and I've been questioning a lot of things in my life. One thing that I was thinking about today was investing in myself and what exactly that means to me. I'm sure you've heard people talk about investing in yourself before, but have you done it and do you know what that entails? To me, it means a lot of things, but above all, it means believing in myself. It means that I'm not going to let anyone else tell me what I can and cannot do and that I vow to live by my own truths. This is the first ingredient to living a more fulfilling life and something that I constantly struggle with.
It's definitely not easy to believe in yourself when you're the only one doing so. I'm not saying that other people don't believe in you, but not to the extent that you have to. You have to truly believe that you can do anything that you put your mind to. You can't rely on others to tell you. You have to believe in the power that you hold inside of you and learn how to use that power. This is certainly not something that most people know how to do and it's something that I have a lot of questions about. I often wonder how to get where I want to be and what exactly other people are doing to make their dreams come true. Instead of turning inward, I almost always look out. The problem is, we'll never find what we're looking for if we don't turn to ourselves first.
Something that I've learned recently is that the best way to believe in myself and gain insight from within is to just keep reminding myself of my worth. Everyday, I've been telling myself how great I am and how much I can, and will, accomplish. I write down statements like "I am worthy", "I am strong", and "I am confident." These phrases really help reinforce my belief in myself and you can do the same. You are made of the stars and everything in between and you are capable of accomplishing anything you dream of in life. We are often told that we can't always get what we want, but if you think like that, you truly will never get what you want. Dream big and reinforce the thinking that you will accomplish your goals. I suggest writing yourself affirmations every once in a while and trying to repeat them to yourself every day.
When you start believing in yourself, you're truly investing your heart and mind into who you are and where you're going. We are all capable of doing this if we truly work hard and don't let doubt permeate our minds and effect our view of ourselves. To be completely honest, I definely have to work extra hard on this because I've had low self-esteem for as long as I can remember. I've always let the opinions of others change the way I view myself. I now know that other peoples opinions of me are irrelevant, but it's a hard habit to break. I constantly find myself having to reassure myself that I am worthy and capable. Your mind isn't always your friend and sometimes you have to put it in its place.
While I'm just rambling on like this, I think another important factor to note is that a big part of believing in what you can do is putting yourself out there. No matter how uncomfortable it might make you, you have to face your fears and be comfortable showing yourself to the world. Now, with social media, it's so easy for anyone to share anything and sometimes we might go too far with this. However, if you learn to put yourself out there in a positive manner, you'll be shocked what the results might be. If you have a blog, promote it. If you produce art, promote it. If you have a message to share, promote it. People might not always respond positively, but who cares? Be proud of what you can do and get excited to share it with the world.
Now, I know sharing yourself like this is scary for a lot of people, myself included. I struggle to share my blog posts and, most of the time, I only do so on my tumblr, where not many people that I know personally follow me. I'm awkward and shy and I'm a private person when it comes to broadcasting myself. However, I've been taking one step at a time and breaking out of my shell. I started sharing photos of myself on Instagram, which I never really used to do and I even added my blog link to my bio. These might not seem like huge steps to everyone, but I'm becoming more and more comfortable with sharing myself and my message everyday. If you're like me and you feel uncomfortable putting yourself out there, make a list of small goals and just work towards them in steps. You don't have to jump right into anything. You can slowly integrate what you're comfortable with.
I'm just here to remind you that you are amazing and worthy just how you are and that you are capacble of accomplishing everything you've ever wanted in life. You are strong and you are beautiful. No one can ever take any of that away from you. So, stand tall and invest time in yourself and creating the life that you deserve. Be proud and don't forget that you are a true wonder of the world. You are loved and you are love.
