3 Things To Do When You're Feeling Depressed
Now, I know depression is different for everyone, but I'm talking about those long dark days when you just don't want to do anything and everyone around you is draining the last bit of energy that you have left. Obviously, there are very severe forms of depression that need more than just some tips written on a blog. I'm not even sure if what I'm about to write will be helpful at all to anyone, but I think I need to write it out for my own good.
- Write out your feelings. I think this is something that many people do when they've gotten into a depression. However, sometimes there are not exact feelings to write down and that's okay too. I find that, when I'm depressed, I don't have many feelings outside of frustration. Although some people think that nothing exactly causes depression, I do think that if you dig deep, there is a lot that you might need to sort out in order some things that might have lead to the depression.
- Make art. This goes along with writing, but I've always found that making art allows me to express my feelings in a deeper way. Right now, for me, it helps to write poetry. Although poetry has been a way of expressing my feelings for a long time, I've also used outlets like drawing and painting. Art is an amazing tool that can help us express a multitude of emotions and it always gives me insight into how I'm really feeling.
- Be silent. Don't turn on the TV or watch YouTube videos on your phone. Don't even read or listen to music. Just be by yourself for a moment. There are so many things that can have our attention at any time and we often use things like our phones to get away from ourselves and to escape the moment. I, personally, find myself looking at my phone much more than I should. If we can truly be by ourselves, we can learn more about ourselves.
So, yeah, that's my (very) short list. I'm definitely not an expert, but these are the top three things that really help me when I'm feeling depressed. I've been going through a bit of a hard time recently and I used these tips earlier today and they have really helped me get back a little bit. I hope they can help others as well.
Peace.
